The Fleming College Hatchery, at Frost Campus in Lindsay ON has a long and legendary history. Since the 1970s fish have been raised on Frost campus, but the current, modern Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) training facility bears little resemblance to the outdoor, cement raceway double pass system that originally inhabited the site.
Our hatchery staff is dedicated to providing the best possible teaching and training to the student of Fleming’s Aquaculture Post Graduate Certificate program, while also providing unique applied research services to industry partners and taking part in wild fisheries and environmental restoration projects to contribute to the health and well being of Ontario’s natural aquatic heritage.
Other programs in the Frost Environmental and Natural Resources program suite benefit from the opportunities and services made available by having a fully functioning aquaculture facility on site.
Partnerships with the Peterborough campus’ Culinary programs, lab classes delivered to students in Frost’s Common First Semester and tours, demonstrations and volunteer and work placement opportunities benefit many diverse Fleming students and these opportunities set Fleming college in a class of its own when compared to other Canadian post-secondary institutions.
